TODO: clean this up into sections, add links, etc
I go by miredo these days. It's do-re-mi (like, Harukaze Doremi) but backwards. I also use the name nah for music I've done. I want to take things easy. I'm not over the hill, but I'm getting older and I wish I was twenty-something again. I also wish I wasn't quite so fucking broke; life is getting more expensive while I'm still getting paid the same.
When it comes to music, I like oldschool gabber music and heavy metal a lot. I also really like jungle and classic breakbeat hardcore. I wish rock was still a more mainstream genre; most of the bands I really liked kind of fell apart some time before 2008 or haven't been good in years... shit sucks. A big portion of my musical taste came from a friend of mine who gave me a ton of MP3s back in 2005 (a lot of which I don't have anymore sadly), and a lot of the rest came from random internet radio stations I used to listen to. YouTube also ended up playing a fair bit of a role, but YouTube recs are vastly less useful for discovery these days.
I fucking love Gundam and mecha in general. I have seen pretty much everything in Gundam from Unicorn and before, not including the SD shows. I'm a fan of the Warhammer 40k setting (fuck Games Workshop though). I'm also a massive fan of mahou shoujo (and just general shoujo) anime like Ojamajo Doremi (unreasonably good show, there is a reason I'm named miredo), Precure (I am surprisingly close to having watched all of Precure, with only a handful of seasons I've seen none of, and only a handful of others that I need to finish), Card Captor Sakura, Creamy Mami, etc. The only anime I keep up with week-to-week at this point is Precure, and I'm mostly enjoying Kimi to Idol Precure quite a bit. Some of the plots are dumb by Precure standards , but it's still quite entertaining. I also like mahou shoujo series targeted toward an older demographic, like Madoka (can't fucking wait for the next movie), Nanoha (Nanoha A's is a brilliant show), Gushing Over Magical Girls (for what it is, it still seems to remember that it is actually a magical girl series), Gonna Be the Twintail (does this count as mahou shoujo? very fun show), etc.
I'm big on arcade games. There are quite a few games I've only found out due to going through what's available in MAME (you should try out Panikuru Panekuru, which seems to have been made by the Mr. Driller team). I really love rhythm games like IIDX, Project Diva, and Sound Voltex. I used to be a massive Sonic fan, but it has been a long time since I've been anything but exhausted with the series, and there was a point where I realized that no one with any sway at Sega seems to remember the handling of the classic Sonic games, nor the tight, sensitive (often too sensitive) control found in the Sonic Adventure games. I will never not be annoyed that Sonic Mania 2 will probably never happen. I kind of passed modern gaming by.
I want to have fun while I'm online, and I make an attempt to not be too negative. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but I really do try to pay attention to whether I'm having fun or not when I'm on the internet. I abandoned social media once it stopped being fun: instead of seeing artists that I hadn't yet followed on my feed, I got political bullshit and rage bait that I didn't give a rat's ass about. I left 4chan once I noticed that I stopped having fun. No one was interested in anything other than trying to bait each other for easy replies, and my wordfilter list had grown unreasonably large (and this was after years of thinking the filter list was for little bitches, lol). I still miss [s4s] a lot, but there was a reason I left. [s4s] is what got me into watching Ojamajo Doremi, and I started using the name nah when I made music there.
I miss a lot of the IRC channels I used to go to, but they're all dead (as one would expect them to be 14+ years later). I don't use Discord for a lot of reasons. Some are cultural (I'm an old guy and I'm not about to spend my time hanging around teens on Discord), but it's mostly just the fact that it's a hyper-pervasive single service that gets to easily track you across multiple communities (and seems to actively make an effort to try and identify you with things phone number verification). I miss all the PHPBB/Invision/etc forums I went to. Pretty much all are dead, and many of them started in the early 00s so I'm not surprised, but it still sucks ass.
I'm still trying to learn Japanese. It's slow going because I don't have nearly enough consistency with studying (kids, try to find a job with a fixed schedule, it really does make so many things easier when you can just say you're going to do something every day at whatever-o-clock for an hour instead of trying to fit it into whatever random-ass hours in the day you have where you aren't at work and don't have to make scheduling decisions constantly for other shit you have to do), but the last year has been more fruitful than any attempt I've made before. I do think the fact that I learned Toki Pona has helped me immensely, namely because I think it proved to myself that I could learn another language at all, even if it's one with like 137 or whatever words. toki pona li pona mute tawa mi a. mi wile toki pona tawa jan ante pi toki pona; taso mi tawa ala lon lipu Discord; kulupu "ma pona pi toki pona" lon lipu Discord li kulupu pi pona mi ala.
I make a decent attempt to be creative. I'm not a great artist, but I think I'm getting better and have a few drawings I've done that I'm solidly proud of, even if they're still not to the standard that I'd like. I'm not an amazing musician, but I don't think I'm bad, and I've been doing that for over 15 years now (but I am also very lazy, which has probably held me back a lot). I've been making various animated things with TiXL, and that has been fun. I've played around with using Krita for animation, but mostly just stick figures and simple black and white things.
This is a rather big about me page, but fuck it. If no one reads it, let me still have my vanity, lmao. If you did read it all, thanks!
