Here are various fanfiction stories I like a lot. Just about all of these links go to FanFiction.net. Completed stories will have [C] after their title. Short stories will have a [S] after. This page is a work in progress as I sort through what I've read and what's particularly good or memorable out of it. I might remove stories listed here too if I added them based on good memories and then re-read it and don't think it's that great.
My descriptions aren't great, but oh well. Read the description at the top of each story if you want a better idea of what's going on since I didn't just copy those for whatever reason.

Warhammer 40k
- Ciaphas Cain, Warmaster of Chaos - a fun ride where Ciaphas Cain (HERO OF THE IMPERIUM - except not this time), entirely on accident, finds himself the leader of an increasingly large (and heretical) rebellion movement that is okay with three of the four Chaos Gods. A remarkably entertaining story that is arguably less about Cain trying to deal with Chaos and more Cain failing upwards without limit as his attempts at sabotaging the entire affair repeatedly fail until he simply cannot back out, all while he's left confronting the failures of the Imperium, whether he's aware of it or not. Largely a comedy, but it feels like a proper 40k story a lot of the time too. The author tries to convince you that this is a goofy story, but 40k is an inherently silly setting, so it comes off remarkably straight.
- The Unsuspected Prisoner [C] - It is the 61st Millenium, and things are very different. I don't want to spoil anything. The story heavily integrates aspects from the Nanoha universe and the beginning doesn't feel very 40k at all, but by the end of the story, you will be absolutely certain that you are in the world of 40k. I will say though, everything definitely seems like it went far too well considering some of the things mentioned, but that's almost certainly the result of the Nanoha aspects of the story being mixed in (the words Chaos Imperium also bring to mind a significantly worse future, although it is quite clear that there were thousands of years of absolute agony separating 40k and the present enlightened age). Nanoha herself is not present whatsoever, but Nanoha-style magic and intelligent devices are, along with characters that seem maybe a bit more than a little familiar already. I really wish there was more in this world, because it's a setting with the grim darkness of the far future having become a thing of the past, but the past keeps rearing its ugly head, all of its viciousness ready to strike this time of idealism. Genuinely, if you like 40k or Nanoha, read this. There is another story in the setting by the author that explains things more, but as far as I can tell, that's everything. Neither story is particularly long.
- Cult of the Machine God - the Omnissiah, the Motive Force, the Machine God, has ended up in our ancient past in the time of the gods of Olympus. I really like how it deals with bringing in such a foreign and powerful god into the time of ancient Greece. Hasn't updated in a while, sadly.
- Dracula 40000 [C] [S] - in this fairly short story, Count Dracula has survived into the 41st millennium, and the Inquisition is after him. I really do like how the wretched nature of 40k makes you wonder if Dracula is even a villain here.
- The Witches' Night [C] - Madoka Kaname has made an absolutely terrible mistake with her wish that has led her to end up in the grim darkness of the far future, and with her accident, something terrible has followed her into the 41st millennium. I love this story quite a lot. Occasionally goofy because 40k is just a goofy setting, but mostly quite serious.
- 40K-ON! - Primaris Victoria [C] - the K-On crew are Sisters of Battle, and they're faced with Slaaneshi cultists. It's time to show them what good music is. Very funny premise, very good execution, remarkably good blending of the two wildly disparate franchises.
Final Fantasy 7
- The Fifth Act [C] - Cloud ends up back in time on accident, and absolutely desperately tries to prevent his future from becoming what it was. He immediately sets out to try and kill Sephiroth, but a lot of things get in the way of that. This is almost certainly my favorite FF7 story of all.
- One Stroke [C] - Sephiroth kills Hojo, solving an incredible amount of problems in one go. This seems like it'd be a oneshot, but there are 44 chapters. This is probably my second favorite FF7 story.
- Great Minds [C] [S] - Kunsel knows too much about everything. He's like a walking strategy guide for the real world, and Genesis wants to find out what's up with this guy. Short, fun, Kunsel and Genesis become friends, it's great.
Harry Potter
- Seventh Horcrux [C] - on the night that Harry was fated to die and became the Boy Who Lived, the Horcrux now in his head takes over. This story is significantly goofier than it sounds, a comedy focused on an absurdly narcissistic fragment of Voldemort who goes through Harry's life in his place. Takes more than its fair share of pot shots at what happens in canon, but that's alright.
- Harry Potter: Dark Memories [C] - Harry Potter has Voldemort's memories. Instead of being consumed by them, following down their dark path, he finds himself utilizing the knowledge to fight against Voldemort. Extremely exciting story with a lot of strange twists and turns. It isn't really a super-Harry story, but it does heavily stretch credibility just what a bunch of first year students could do, so you will have to ignore that fact. I think this one is a lot of fun to read despite being a bit off.
- Let the Games Begin! - a story where Terry Boot of all the characters in Harry Potter ends up going through all manner of strange games like in the Yu-Gi-Oh manga, along with several of his other classmates. Takes an ordinary guy and throws him into all manner of strange adventures that Harry and his companions are used to.
- When In Doubt, Obliviate [C] - Harry is raised by Gilderoy Lockhart. The man remains a fairly unscrupulous and vain gloryhound that lacks any real skill beyond his ability to erase memories, although raising a son has clearly mellowed him out. It's a mostly comedic story, even if the actual events are all played quite straight.
- A Black Comedy [C] - Harry is a researcher at the Department of Mysteries, studying the stone archway that Sirius fell through. He ends up falling through, dislodging Sirius from it, and ending up in another world. Nonsense ensues. Harry figured out how to make invisible magic arms, there are a bunch of sex jokes and hookups played for laughs, Ginny is dead and haunts Harry, it's definitely not a serious story at all.
- Harry Potter and the Natural 20 - Milo, a D&D Wizard, ends up at Hogwarts due to a side effect of a ritual cast by Death Eaters. His skillset and physiology are vastly different to that of the people of Harry's world, and Milo's player is an extreme munchkin who is extremely fond of minmaxing. Chaos ensues. Very funny story that has a few serious moments. It will probably never be finished, sadly.
Pokemon
- ClicheStorm
[C] - Hilda ends up with Kyurem as her starter. A very lively not-quite-a-retelling of the events of Pokemon Black and White. I don't know if this is my favorite Pokemon fanfiction, but it's up there. There is a sequel that goes over B2/W2 as well.
- Youngster Joey's Savage Journey Into the Heart of Kanto [C] - an absolute drug trip of a story (literally, Youngster Joey is absolutely high off of his face for a significant portion of it). It is difficult to describe. It is very, very, very funny.
- Moon Child Ruins the Earth - an absurdly nonsensical story that deals with the fact that a small girl has decided to capture the deities of Alola and stick them into her PC. The gods of the land are no longer present. Somewhat of a sequel to Youngster Joey's Savage Journey Into the Heart of Kanto, and has the same kind of absolutely off-the-wall humor. Unfortunately not complete as of this writing. It is definitely more coherent of a story than the previous one, but that isn't saying much.
Other
- How Coyote Starrk became a member of the Gotei 13 (On Accident) [Bleach] [C] - Starrk and Lilynette get curious as to what's happening in Soul Society, and in this comedy of errors, Stark ends up as the only person in the Seiretei who isn't panicking in the middle of the unfolding crisis, and thus is clearly someone important and in charge. Unfortunately, he is not actually what everyone thinks he is, and he's deep in the middle of enemy territory while trying not to blow his cover and be exposed as a Hollow. Very entertaining. Not too long, but it's still 36k words.
- As the Sun [Avatar: The Last Airbender] [C] - In the time after Aang's death in the Southern Air Temple, the Avatar Cycle has come to the Fire Nation, and Azula is the Avatar. The writing style is a bit terse and dreamlike, but it's a gripping, thrilling tale. Azula remains dangerous and kind of murderous, but she ends up on the side of the heroes here, and it's quite interesting to see how that's handled.
- Kuririn: Only Human [Dragon Ball] [C] - The events of DBZ, as seen through Krillin's eyes. Just a really good look into his life and how all the things that happened in the manga affected him. Very well done.
- Taming of the Cat [Chrono Trigger] [C] [S] - After the events of Chrono Trigger, Ayla goes back to her own time with the knowledge of just how useful cats are. With the power she gained on her travels through time, she seeks to be the first to domesticate cats. A fun short story with a very goofy ending.
- Louise Summons a Master of Explosions [Familiar of Zero] [C] [S] - a short story where Megumin ends up as Louise's summon. I do wish it were a bit more fleshed out, but it would probably end up being "Louise and Megumin go around exploding every single problem that shows up"... which I guess would probably still be a fun read. The author has written a lot of other Louise Summons a ______ stories, which are generally quite good. Few of them are finished, however.
