tl;dr: you will find a lot of broken links on the site

pomf.lain.la is going down, probably for a few months, but potentially for good. The links will remain until I know for certain if it's going to be gone for good, but all pomf.lain.la links are expected to be broken until then. The shutdown is happening in stages, so some links may work until March 14th.

I have added CSS that identifies these links and strikes through them as a warning. I will probably need to go through and re-arrange the order of links for many files.

I may or may not attempt to add more mirrors to my off-site files, but due to the state of things, I suspect my options are shrinking. I do have a VidLii account, but my animation uploads, which were HD and 60fps, have been dropped to 480p@30fps despite the site apparently supporting HD video (I don't know if they support 60fps though). I should probably set up a SoundCloud account, too, but I don't know.

I have decided to try out fileditch.com for additional file hosting, but I don't know how reliable they are. They also say that files may be deleted after 30 days of inactivity, but they go on to say that this is unlikely, so who knows. They also have JS anti-bot detection (shame, but increasingly mandatory with the sheer violence of web scraping these days; I do try to make sure things can be accessed by someone with the Links browser) and a landing page for viewing files, neither of which are things I particularly want in a file host. I really should stop being cheap, although for video hosting, I'd still want someone else to do it. None of these are great options.

I will probably use Heyuri and World2ch's uploaders more, and possibly some Japanese sites that use the uploader script those two sites use if I have to. The big issue is that they don't allow particularly large files. Heyuri's uptime is also not very good (it isn't ever down for long, but it is often down). I have been tempted to upload .hqx.txt files here for small things (since they're text-encoded binary files), but I feel like that's going too far outside the spirit of what Neocities allows for free users, and at that point, I would just pay.

As you might tell, I have avoided having a Google account, which is a problem for using YouTube, Google Drive, and Gmail for hosting and contact, and I will likely continue to avoid making one. I remember the "don't be evil" days, and it is almost comical just how far Google has strayed from that ideal. It would be funny if so much shit didn't depend on them, and I don't want to depend on them if I can help it.

Shit sucks. It feels a bit like the walls are closing in. I have had some trouble uploading to Catbox too (both recently and in the past), and I depended on pomf.lain.la more because they had proven to be more reliable. I really hope pomf.lain.la does come back after full shutdown happens.
